DARTS-PL – Next Stage Launched
The DARTS-PL project has begun its next stage of implementation – a spring recording session that will cover over 100 locations in six voivodeships. Recordings are being conducted both day and night to capture the widest possible spectrum of traffic situations.
Simultaneously, the arduous process of data processing is underway. The team from Warsaw University of Technology is responsible for preparing detailed annotations – for both 2D images and 3D point clouds. These, in practice, determine the value of the entire database.
These annotations cover objects related to the road space and allow for a precise description of what is happening in the recordings. The system classifies them into nine main categories and over 40 subclasses. These include pedestrians, cyclists, passenger cars and trucks, as well as trams and special vehicles. In some cases, additional attributes are added to provide even more accurate representations of the situation – for example, the presence of children on bicycles or an emergency vehicle in action.
The project's creators announce that a detailed map of object classes will be published this quarter. Users are expected to have access to the first, sample portion of the DARTS-PL database before the end of the third quarter of this year.
