DARTS-PL Project reaches next stage

DARTS-PL is a joint initiative of the Motor Transport Institute (ITS) and the Warsaw University of Technology (PW), aimed at creating a Polish database of scenarios for testing and developing algorithms for automated vehicles. The plan involves recording over 100 sections of road infrastructure under various environmental conditions using a set of 19 sensors (8 recordings per section: four seasons, day and night). The project is funded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) (GOSPOSTRATEG-VIII/0001/2022).

The ITS team has already completed most of the measurements in the Masovian region. In recent weeks, recordings have been carried out in the Greater Poland and Łódź voivodeships, including sections with railway-road crossings. Currently, measurements are ongoing in Silesia and the districts of Brzeg, Nowy Targ, and Tatra, covering sections characteristic of mountainous areas and additional railway crossings.

After recording, the data is verified for synchronization and calibration. Subsequently, the PW team – using their own tools – annotates key frames of the scenarios, classifying objects into one of nine categories and labeling them in both vision and lidar data. The publication of this part of the database is planned for later this year.
