World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
On Sunday, 17 November 2024, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was observed. This day was an opportunity to draw attention to the global problem of road traffic accidents and their victims. Initiated by the UN General Assembly, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims has been observed since 26 October 2005, always falling on the third Sunday of November.
Celebrations
In Poland, the main celebrations of the World Day took place in the town of Zabawa near Tarnów, including at the Monument to Road Traffic Victims. This year, the global campaign was titled "This Day", recalling the tragedies associated with road traffic accidents. Each victim has their own story related to this day, which is remembered by their loved ones, friends and acquaintances. The Przejście Association, the Motor Transport Institute, the National Road Safety Council and the Road Safety Initiatives Center invited everyone to participate in the official online celebrations of the "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims", which took place on November 17, 2024.
On October 26, 2005, the United Nations General Assembly announced a resolution establishing the third Sunday of November as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The resolution was an invitation to member states and international organizations to celebrate this day, as an expression of remembrance for all victims and their loved ones.
